Emma Julia Stammer Findeis Miranda SD
Daughter: Emma Julia Stammer Findeis married Louis E. Metz Findeis.

Daughter: Mary Wilhelmina Stammer Yada holding her daughter Pearl Robinson Yada.

She married Walter Oscar Yada (1885-1968) (
in back on left) on September 6, 1911. The couple farmed in the Miranda-Rockham area until 1952 when they retired and moved to Redfield. They had two children: Pearl & Eugene (1913-2005).

They had two daughters: Vicki Bachmayer and Marilyn Hadrick.

Lieutenant Stammer was a navigator in the Air Force in the second World War. 

Grandson: Larry Stammer, son of Henry and Pearl Wilhelm Stammer, and Virginia (Ginny) Lee Metz Stammer Gamo.

Virginia's parents were Francis (Pete) Metz & Betty Ford Metz Stammer and her stepfather was Wayne Stammer. 

Augusta's parents:

William Frederick Kaeding / Kading (1829–1907) married Maria Sophia Charlotte Kohler (1826–1901) on January 9, 1848. They had four children in Germany.

They came to US about 1869. They first lived in Ft. Atkinson, Wisconsin and in 1879 moved to Casey, Iowa.

Marcus's father: John Stammer & family left Germany in1866 for America.

Granddaughter: Henry & Maria Rebecca Von Ahn Fuss. 1925

Grandson: Marcus & wife Sadie Von Ahn. 1925

The Pool Hall

This building was originally a store operated by Dean and Byrne. It later became the Pool Hall.


Rudolph Alexander was
the proprietor of the
Pool Hall in 1909.


Mark Stammer was the owner of Pool Hall in 1930 census.


John Kemp was the proprietor of the Pool Hall in the 1940 census. 

Ed Shaver owned and operated the Pool Hall when
fire destroyed the building in 1946.

 

Miranda General Store

In 1910, Seibert Brothers built a second general store and meat market in Miranda.

Ray Manbeck sold to Mark Stammer.

Mark's granddaughter,  Clara Von Ahn,
was a clerk.
 
In 1920, Mark Stammer sold the store to Floyd Blauert.

 

Marcus & Augusta
Kading Stammer
 

 

Marcus (Mark) was born in 1859 in German. In
1866, the Stammers left Germany and came to
America, settling in Guthrie County, Iowa.

Augusta (Gustie) was born in Germany in 1861
and came to this country with her parents in 1869.

Marcus Wilhelm Stammer and Augusta Caroline
Kading were married in 1882 in Casey, Iowa.

In 1907, they loaded their machinery and horses in
a box car and traveled to South Dakota. They had
purchased a farm 3 1/2 miles southeast of Miranda
from Herman Grabinski.

Later they moved into Miranda where they owned a
pool hall and later a grocery store. They bought the
store from Ray Manbeck and sold it to the Blauert
Brothers.

Marcus Stammer's parents: John & Dorathea Stammer

Jurgen Stammerjohan was born on June 21, 1828, in
Germany. He married Margaretha Dorathea Paulssen
in 1852. They had six children during their marriage.
He died on July 18, 1905, in Casey, Iowa. His wife
Margaretha Dorathea passed away on August 12,
1889, in Casey, Iowa, They had been married 37
years.

 


Daughter: Emma (Em) Stammer Findeis and husband
Louis Metz Findeis.

Emma Stammer (1891-1961) was born at Casey,
Iowa, the daughter of Mr and Mrs Marcus Stammer.
She was a resident of the Miranda community since
1907.  She married Louis Findeis January 26, 1910,
at Miranda.  They established their home on a farm in
Arcade township.  Her husband preceded  her in
death on July 12, 1948.

Fred died in 1947 as the result of a farming accident.
Amanda continued to live on the farm until 1974 when
she moved to Redfield.

John & Johanna Theresa "Jennie" Michels Stammer

 

John Stammer, the son of Marcus and Augusta Stammer was born at Casey, Iowa, on January 17, 1883 and came to Faulk County, Hillsdale Township, in 1907.

 

On February 22, 1910 he married Jennie Michels, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Matt Michels, who homesteaded in Hillsdale Township in 1883.

 

They had four children: LeRoy, Glenn, Barbara and Bernice.

 

They started farming in Hillsdale Township on a farm four miles south and three-fourths miles east of Miranda.  In the spring of 1933, they moved to a farm three miles south and one and three-fourths miles west of Miranda in Arcade Township.

 

The children all went to the Sievers School in Hillsdale Township where they got their eighth-grade diplomas.  They then went to Rockham High School and graduated from there.

 

John died in September 1959, Jennie died in March 1963.

Glenn Stammer

 

Son Glenn and his wife, Altha Wilhelm, operated the farm until 1979, when they had a farm sale and moved to Faulkton. 

The farm was sold to Dennis & Kathy Biedenfeld. Currently Mike & Nancy Bent Grunewaldt own the farm.
