Fredericka Ricke Wilhelmina Lemke
(1860-1934) was born in Germany, the child of
Edmann and Caroline Lemke.
Ricke married William
F. Mowry (-1884) in Casey, Iowa
and they had two children: Ruben William Mowry
& William
(Will) Frank Mowry.
In 1885, She married Carl Fred William Kempe
(1860-1956).
They farmed in Iowa until 1909 when they loaded their
belonging
on a box car and left for South Dakota. They had previously
purchased land from Frank & Minnie Belau Grabinski. Carl
and
Rieke lived
on their Hillsdale Township farm until 1920, when they
built a
house
in Miranda, and moved there. Mrs.
Kempe boarded
the teachers
and cooked for the railroad men as they passed
through town.
They also boarded Bill Zarneke, the banker, and
Marvin
Iverson,
who worked in the Blauert Store. They had
six
children together
between 1886 and 1895.
